Three of a family sustained burn injuries when a fire broke out at their house in Fatullah upazila, Narayanganj.

The fire reportedly broke out in the early hours of Thursday in a rented house in Gabtoli Notun Bazar area.

They are in critical condition and undergoing treatment at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed one of their family members named Helal Uddin.

Among the injured, Rezaul Kazi, 40, sustained 90% burn injuries, his wife Jamila Begum, 35, and their daughter, Mitu Akhter, 16, sustained 50% burn injuries each, according to Bacchu Miah, in-charge of DMCH Police outpost.

The family used to burn jhut ((garment factory scraps) to keep mosquitoes away, said Aslam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Fatullah police station.

“We found the presence of jhut on the burnt spot and suspect that the fire is likely to have originated from that and critically burned the family,” the OC added.
